Exactly that—an album from the town of Beechworth, tucked away in the middle of nowhere in regional Victoria, not far from the New South Wales border. You might be expecting crooked picket fences, rundown houses, and puddles big enough to train a Pacific navy in—but if that’s the vibe you’re after, better head to rural Russia. Beechworth’s a bit different.

The town sits in an old gold mining region, and back in the day, money was absolutely pouring in. Most of the buildings along the main street were built in the 1800s—and they’re still standing. But not as museum pieces—they’re proper shops, pubs, restaurants, hotels and the like. That golden past still lingers, especially in the fancy jewellery store that looks like it belongs in a capital city.
Fun fact: the infamous bushranger Ned Kelly once did time in Beechworth Gaol. And no, you’re not seeing things—that really is an anti-aircraft gun. It’s a memorial outside the Beechworth RSL, the local veterans’ club.
These days, Beechworth’s best known for its honey. Beechworth Honey is in pretty much every supermarket across Australia. And yep, there’s even a “Honey School” in town.
