It all started with a trip I took to Loch with my drone late last year. Took a few photos and videos, and while I was checking them out at home, I noticed a radio tower way off on the horizon.
It was sitting on the highest hill around and stood out pretty clearly. After a drink or two, I had a surprisingly sober thought: if you can see the tower from everywhere, then chances are you can see everything from up there too.
So with that brilliant bit of logic, I headed off to Tasmania. But once I was back, and the smoke cleared from editing a few hundred Tassie shots, I came back to the idea of tracking down that tower. Didn’t take long... just a bit of triangulation and some serious zooming on Google Maps.
Turns out it’s a radio relay tower in Ryanston, not far from Phillip Island—only about 10 km off the main road. And hey, when you’re keen, 70 km’s nothing. So one summer evening, off I went.
The area’s stunning and properly off the tourist track. Not that tourists have much reason to be wandering around cow paddocks on hills. The local “towns” are Glen Forbes and Ryanston—but calling them towns is being generous. You won’t find two houses next to each other. Usually it’s just a solid farmhouse perched on a hill with killer views, surrounded by sheds and cows. And on the highest hill? The radio tower.
And yeah, the views from up there go way out. One way you can spot the San Remo bridge to Phillip Island, the other way you’re looking toward Wilsons Prom, and just in general, you can see forever. Shame the weather wasn’t super clear that day. Here’s how it turned out:

Закатная радиовышка
Все началось с моей поездки в Лох с дроном в конце прошлого года. Сделал я там несколько снимков и видео, и рассматривая их дома, я заметил на горизонте радиомачту.
