Kicking off our Tassie adventure! The ferry pulled into Devonport, so that’s where we’re starting.
We didn’t hang around town too long — just had a look at the famous lighthouse, then hit the road towards Launceston. The roads in Tassie are in good nick — modern, smooth, and barely any traffic. At least compared to what we’re used to back in Victoria. Easy driving... especially considering most of the roads are through the mountains. Tassie’s full of hills, so yeah — mountain roads make sense, right?
We kicked things off with some tasty stops — Anvers chocolate factory and Ashgrove cheese factory. Both the choccie and the cheese got the thumbs up!
After a few little adventures down some forest dirt roads and passing through a bunch of small towns (didn’t get pics of those, sorry), we made our way to Beaconsfield. That’s where the historic centre is, set on the site of an old gold mine. Some great ruins and quirky displays there.
The last few pics are of the Tamar River — way wider and deeper than we expected. Launceston’s right on the Tamar, and we had a river cruise planned for the next day. But that’s a story for the next album. First impressions of Tassie weather — cold and damp. Everything smells a bit musty!
