Yep, today’s all about the blue tones.
The Little Blue Lake is exactly what it sounds like. It’s not that little, but it is very blue. It used to be an open tin mine — the tin ran out, but the miners dug down to a layer of white clay, which now sits at the bottom. The pit filled with water, and that clay reflects the sky in a way that makes the lake look stunningly blue. The water’s full of all sorts of minerals, so you can’t drink it or swim in it. By the way, the area around it is pretty bleak, with abandoned old mining towns. The tin’s long gone.
Blue Tier refers to a tree — the Blue Tier Giant. It’s the widest living tree in Australia. Stands at 60 metres tall, and a whopping 19.4 metres wide. Getting to it wasn’t exactly easy. First, we had to drive along a twisty mountain road, then onto a bumpy dirt road that went on forever. After that, it was a hike through thick, mystical forest — not flat either, but dropping over 100 metres down a narrow track. The walk back up was even more "fun". But honestly, the tree was worth every step.
