It’s got nothing to do with Cadillacs, and it’s not even a real canyon. It’s just a small pile of rocks down the end of an ocean beach near the little resort town of San Remo (which itself is named after the Italian holiday spot).
That said, you’ve got to give the rocks some credit — they’ve ended up looking pretty scenic. It’s honestly tiny, probably no more than twenty metres across, but right through the middle there’s this little rocky channel winding through. Maybe that’s why they decided to call it a canyon.
The spot’s dead easy to get to (if you know where it is), so it’s super popular with Melbourne photographers. It’s become a bit of a trendy thing to rock up there at sunset with a tripod and shoot the waves with a long exposure against the colourful sky.
And me, what, am I too fancy for that?
I pretty much did the same thing. Only I couldn’t be bothered waiting for sunset, so I just slapped a black ND filter on my lens to get the long exposure shots. Plus, I mucked around with a couple of the photos in editing — swapped out the sky and gave it some sunset colours for a bit of fun.
Here’s how it turned out: https://www.
