Everyone's got their own winter traditions. Some folks head to the sauna with mates for New Year's, some watch movies about it – but down in Melbourne during winter, people go for a wander through the Botanical Gardens at night. Bit of a new tradition, actually – only kicked off last year.
It’s called Lightscape, held at the Royal Botanic Gardens. It’s a light and sound show, with all sorts of lights and projectors lighting up the plants, trees, and fountains along the path. The whole walk takes about an hour and a half to two hours if you’re strolling, with plenty of stops at little stalls selling mulled wine and snacks. No wonder it's becoming such a hit – it’s already turning into a bit of a tradition.
It gets packed, so you’ve gotta grab tickets ahead of time, and they’re for specific entry slots. They let groups in every 15 minutes. Oh, and the soundtrack includes some tunes from “Zodiac” – remember that old Latvian electronic band from the '80s?
Anyway, here are some pics. Nothing fancy – no artsy shots or crazy edits. Just snapped as it was, with a bit of grain cleaned up.
