Mount Macedon is located to the northwest of Melbourne, just around the corner from Hanging Rock. After my little wander around the aforementioned rock, I wasn’t in a rush to head home, so I dropped by a few more scenic spots in the area.

First up was a short climb up a hill with the romantic name Camel’s Hump. Nothing to write home about, but the views from the top aren’t bad. The first five pics in the album are from there.

A few k’s from that is the Memorial Cross. In 1935, a giant steel cross was put up on top of Mount Macedon. It was commissioned by local landowner William Cameron as a tribute to those who died in the First World War. He also wanted to give some work to the locals—it was the middle of the Great Depression, after all. The whole thing cost him ten thousand pounds, which, back then, was a small fortune. Over time, the cross started rusting away, and in 1995 it was replaced with a visually identical one made from reinforced concrete.

The Memorial Cross is now considered one of the most significant war memorials in the country. The inscription reads: “To the glory of God and in memory of Australia’s sons, 1914–1918. Death cannot rob them of their glory nor time efface the memory of their gallant deeds.”

The last bunch of photos were taken on Honour Avenue—a road lined with European trees. Avenues of Honour are an Aussie tradition for remembering fallen soldiers. A straight road, planted with trees, each one symbolising a life lost. There are over 500 of them across Australia, and I visited one of them that day.

P.S. While we’re on the war theme...

Australia has a national broadcaster—ABC, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. It gets a billion dollars a year to deliver impartial news coverage and cultural programming. “Impartial”, yeah... right.

The ABC leans so far left they’d need a counterweight just to stand up straight. It mostly represents one viewpoint—supporting socialists, greens, trans activists, Palestinians, etc. Until recently, though, they hadn’t been caught batting for the Kremlin. Well, tick that box now. ABC has started pushing pro-Kremlin propaganda. Specifically, they aired a documentary called Ukraine’s War: The Other Side, made by British journo Sean Langan.

Watching this film is enough to make any halfway reasonable person cringe—starting with the title. Under the helpful supervision of his FSB minders, Langan went off to the front lines with the Russian army. This wasn’t even pretending to be objective journalism—he just repeated Kremlin narratives and tried to paint Russian soldiers in a warm and fuzzy light. The highlight? An interview with a Wagner bloke shouting that the Bucha massacre was a hoax made up by the Ukrainians. Just one small detail—our mate Langan was dressed in Russian military gear, complete with the Russian flag, but without a single “PRESS” marking in sight. Technically, he was just another mercenary tagging along with an invading army.

The fact that a film like this even exists is disturbing enough. Do you remember British reporters in 1944 doing interviews with SS officers during the Normandy landings? Yeah, I don’t remember that happening either.

And no, I totally get that Russia bankrolls people like this and churns out this kind of propaganda. What I don’t get is why it’s being broadcast on Australia’s publicly funded ABC.

Mount Macedon расположена на северозапад от Мельбурна, совсем рядом с Висячей скалой. После моей прогулки по вышеупомянутой скале, я не стал торопиться домой, а посетил еще несколько окрестных живописных мест.

Для начала, я залез на горку под романтическим названием Верблюжий Горб (Camel's Hump). Ничего особенного, но виды открываются неплохие. Это первые 5 снимков в альбоме.

В нескольких километрах оттуда находится Мемориальный Крест. В 1935 году огромный стальной крест был воздвигнут на вершине горы Македон. Крест был построен по заказу местного землевладельца Уильяма Кэмерона, чтобы увековечить память погибших в Первой мировой войне. К тому же, Кэмерон хотел дать работу местным жителям, потому что это были тяжелые времена великой депрессии. Крест обошелся ему в 10000 фунтов стерлингов, что по тем временам было кучей денег. Крест постепенно стал ржаветь, и в 1995 году его заменили на визуально идентичный, но сделанный из железобетона.

Мемориальный Крест является одним из самых значительных памятников погибшим в войне. Надпись на нем гласит: "Во славу Божию и в память сыновей Австралии, 1914-1918 гг. Смерть не может лишить их славы, а время не может стереть память об их доблестных поступках." ("To the glory of God and in memory of Australia's sons, 1914-1918. Death cannot rob them of their glory nor time efface the memory of their gallant deeds.").

Последняя серия снимков сделана на Honour Avenue - дороги обсаженной европейскими деревьями. Авеню Чести - это австралийская традиция памяти о погибших солдатах. Прямая дорога обсаживается деревьями, каждое из который символизирует человека. В Австралии более 500 таких авеню, одно из них я и посетил.

P.S. Продолжая тему войны. Есть в Австралии государственная теле/радиокомпания ABC - Australian Broadcasting Corporation. Она получает миллиард долларов в год для беспристрастного освещения новостей, создания культурного контента и т.п. "Беспристрастное", да уж!...

ЭйБиСи организация левацкая, и представляющая только одну точку зрения, поддерживающую социалистов, зеленых, трансгендеров, палестинцев и тому подобную шушеру. Однако, в симпатиях к кремлевскому режиму они замечены еще не были. До недавнего времени. Сейчас ABC гонит про-кремлевскую пропаганду. Если конкретно, то недавно они показали по ТВ документальный фильм "Война Украины: Другая Сторона" (Ukraine's War: The Other Side), снятый британским журналистом Шоном Ланганном.

При просмотре этого фильма нормальных людей корежит от всего, начиная с названия. Шон Ланганн под чутким руководством его фсбшных кураторов отправился на фронт в российскую армию. Это даже не было беспристрастной журналистикой, он лишь озвучивал кремлевские нарративы и старался показать российские военных в душещипательном стиле. Венцом было интервью с воякой из Вагнера, который орал что резни в Буче никакой не было и украинцы это все сами придумали. Маленький момент: "журналист" Шон Ланганн носил российскую военную форму с российским флагом, но нигде не было слова ПРЕССА. Фактически, он был наемником в составе захватнической армии.

Сам факт создания такого фильма вызывает большие вопросы. Помните, как в 1944 году во время высадки в Нормандии английские журналисты интервьюировали эсесовцев по другую сторону фронта? Вот я тоже не помню такого.

Нет, я понимаю, что Россия спонсирует таких "журналистов" и создает подобную пропаганду. Я НЕ понимаю, почему это показывают на австралийском государственном канале ABC.
